What phone numbers can be text-enabled?

Any business landline, VoIP, or toll-free number your business owns and controls. Mobile numbers are already text-capable and don't qualify. We check eligibility instantly — just enter your number.

Will adding texting change my existing phone service?

Not at all. The text and voice networks are completely separate. Your phone system, provider, equipment, and call routing keep working exactly as they do today. Nothing changes on the voice side.

How long does setup take?

Usually minutes. We text-enable your number, you verify ownership with a quick call and an electronic Letter of Authorization, and you’re ready to send and receive texts — often the same day.

Can my whole team use the same number?

Yes. TextBox is a shared team inbox. Multiple users work from one number, with internal notes and comments so every conversation is tracked and nothing falls through the cracks.

What is a message segment and how is it counted?

A segment is how wireless carriers measure message length. Outbound SMS = 160 characters per segment (70 with an emoji or special character). Outbound MMS (photo or PDF) = 4 segments. Inbound SMS = 1 segment regardless of length; inbound MMS = 2 segments. Your monthly plan includes a set number of segments; overages are billed per segment.

Do I need new hardware, phones, or software?

No hardware required. TextBox works in any web browser and has desktop and mobile apps. Any internet-connected device is all your team needs.

Is there a contract or activation fee?

No. TextBox is month-to-month with no activation fee, no term commitment, and a free trial that doesn’t require a credit card. Cancel anytime.

Can customers opt out of receiving texts?

Yes — and it’s automatic. When a customer replies STOP, TextBox immediately stops all outbound messages to that number. STOP/opt-out compliance is built into every plan with no extra setup needed.

What is 10DLC and do I have to manage it?

10DLC (10-Digit Long Code) is the US carrier registration program for business texting. TextBox handles brand and campaign registration on your behalf — it’s included so you never have to navigate carrier requirements on your own.

What happens to my existing phone number?

Nothing changes on the voice side. You keep the same number with the same provider and equipment. TextBox adds texting on top — completely invisible to your phone system.

Can I import my existing customer contacts?

Yes. TextBox supports bulk contact import via CSV. Log in to your account and use the Contacts section to upload your list. Visit the Resources page for the import template and instructions.

Do you support international texting?

Domestic US texting is fully supported. International texting is on our roadmap. Reach out at Success@TextBox.cc if you have specific international requirements.
